I'm using stock hook and a skeet Reese magnum crankbait rod two sins in one cast

I'm curious, would there be negative effects if I took the original hooks off and put #4's or even #6's on it? I'm thinking about doing that in case a smaller fish decides to inhale it, and hopefully I'll get easier hook penetration.
