Hands Free Rod Holders

Featured Replies

I think this belongs more in the tackle than the rod forums but MOD move as you please.

Anyone know of a hands free rod holder for shore or wader fishing? I would like to carry two setups with me fishing the shorelines. I once saw a guy with a wader and he had an extra rod latched behind him but he was too far for me to ask. I'm not sure if it was something built into his fly fishing vest, or his wader, or be simply just shoved it in between his wader and back.

I saw a clip called the Eze Angler clip that you can put in your back pocket or jean waste. Seems cool but at the same time seems like its not stable. Anyone knows of a product please fill in.

BTW I don't care for the floating tube that carries extra rods, tackle, and live bait. That's just too much for me.

Just set your spare down on the ground while you are fishing..   Where is it going to go?

If I'm wader fishing I can't do that. Plus a lot of times covering the shore lines at my favorite spots I like to move a lot. Just a bit of hassle. Another thing is I don't like setting spinning reels on the ground and get sand all over it.

Yea, when your standing waist deep in the middle of a river setting down a second rod or tackle isnt an option. But its nice to be able to have a different set up to go to. And sometimes having a back up rod can save the day. I used to stick a second rod in the back of my belt with the rod butt in my back pocket. While this works not so comfortable, and if I wade to deep or step in a hole gear gets wet. So I got one of these http://www.coastalfishinggear.com/osfm_wade_right.php very handy keeps gear and rods up high and dry and gives you lots of options. Check it out might be the answer your looking for. Worked for me.

Sand may be your worst enemy for a reel, I really do not encounter much of a problem shore fishing in freshwater with sand, however your location may be more of a problem.  A few easy options, wire push in the ground type rod holders are available, check google, or what we do for the beach is a rod spike made out of PVC tubing, like this, just taped a spike from the garden department to the tubing.
