Tough Day On Grand For First Bfl

Featured Replies

Well my first event on grand was a tough one, had a pretty good boater. He fishes grand lake regularly and he just finished 5th on the Nichols Marine Trail last week. but today was another story he tried to find us some fish it was just one of those days working for tough bites. So for my first outing I did not earn the right to walk across the stage, not yet at least.

I'd say I had about 4 bites all day and nothing to show for it. My boater was able to at least land 4 small ones for about 7lbs.

Even though it was a tough day it was still pretty dang cool! They run these events and really makes you feel like the big times. As someone who was hesitant about doing the co-angler thing, I'm really glad I did, my boater was friendly he worked to try and find us some fish. And if your on the fence about trying this do it, it's worth the experience.

My next event is a little closer to home on Tenkiller with the BWS march 23rd.

My club tourny is Sunday.  Looks like good weather.  I have 2 more reels to spool and I'll be ready!

This weekend looks to be nice weather, i plan to hit Tenkiller Saturday take my boat out for its maiden voyage and do a little pre-fishing for the BWS in two weeks.

Good Luck!

Hang in there it just takes time. Hope the next one will be better for you!

Thanks man trying to stay positive, it was tough conditions and im still a tourney trail newb and learning as i go. Its been a long time i have fished that long and had nothing to show for it.

Still excited about the next one! Ready to earn that right to walk across the stage, to weigh-in some fish and I plan to make up for the first outing with a  5 bass limit!

I read an article about the guy that caught the lake record.  He won the tournament.  To bad you didn't draw him!  As far as mine, I can't wait man.  I am in tourny fishing hook, line, and sinker now.  It consumes all of my thoughts.  I just found out at work today that I may have to start bringing my pillow because of all the OT that is coming.  For my sake I hope so.  I get some junk paid off and I'll be joining you in boat ownership!

Nice good luck man!

I know what you mean its consuming me as well, I talked my Dad into fishing the Lake Country Anglers, they fish lakes near muskogee, now i saw a post for a monthly Tourney on Okemah, which is not to far away from here and it wouldn't mess up with my other trails. On top of me wanting to try some weekly Jackpots @ Ft Gibson, they launch at Toppers which is some what close from where we work, haul the boat into to work that day leave from their to the lake!

One positive thing about OT is mo' money and help you get some stuff paid off and ready to put towards that boat!

My first club tournament is Saturday on tenkiller which is also my "home" lake. Went last weekend and it was brutally tough but with this weather it may pick up.

Good luck! Tenkiller is one of my favorite lakes.  I caught my first Smallie there last September!

I have never caught a smallie and im itching to, closest I got was booked a guided trip to table rock last year, rainy cold weather they day of the trip, only got to fish an hour before it was to much. Caught some nice fat Kentucky's and i had my first little smallie on, i saw  him at the boat and he flopped off! I dont know how much closer you can get, ha!

80... we cant get above 40 for more than a day. Callin for snow again here monday.... snow... middle of march

Well u have a great chance on tenkiller to catch a smallie. It's the best smallmouth fishery around IMO. If I wasn't fishing I would go over and show u around. I am very familiar with the lake. If u are going tomorrow stay towards the dam end. I heard the other end was muddy from all the rain. They said there were trees floating around.

Sweet thanks for the tip, at least it gets me going one right direction!

I mostly gotta just do some running and help break in my engine, but I of course got to do a little fishing.

Well, I had to cancel this morning.  The wife is out of commission due to surgery 3 weeks ago.  The little one came down with an earache overnight and daddy gets the call.  The way it goes!  :wink2:

U didn't miss much. It was terrible yesterday at least it was for me. Winner had 17 but no one was even close to that. Second had 13 and everyone else was under 8lbs. I would imagine today would have been terrible fishing in the rain and a slow bite.

Yeah the guy I would have fished with blanked.  He said it was miserable out there.  Winning weight was 12 plus.  A co-angler won. Go figure! lol

dang i figured it would be half way decent with the nice weather this weekend. But poor moon phase as well, as usual though, someone always finds some.

I did launch my Bass Tracker late on Tenkiller, ran it for a solid hour to get the first hour of break in out of the way. Had to put in on Snake Creek, for some reason Chicken Creek was Temp closed. Barely fished any since most of time was spent running and it was getting late. The wife got one nibble, nodda for myself. But water was clear and Temp about 52-53.
