I don't know if any one else has notice but 2 of the 3 tournaments on the tour this year have been won on swimbaits. From what I've been reading those guys are using swimbaits to catch big fish to give them an edge. It use to be that a jig was the go to for big fish but it seems that it has been degraded to second place now. Just wondering what you guys think?

Ok besides the obvious case were there is a already dominate pattern :

KVD won the classic throwing hard rattle baits, and the top finishers were duplicating the same pattern.

Don't think the swimbait was major factor there.

    The Delta wasn't won with swimbaits.   Most of those fish came pitching into the vegitation.

   The all time BASS weight record set on Falcon wasn't set with one swimbait fish.

The swimbait is just another tool in the tackle box, and when the conditions sets up as Catt mentioned,

you'll see them do well.

   

As mentioned a swimbait is one of many tools. I do not believe the jig will be replaced for it to is an effective tool. I do however think that you will see more & more top finishes with swimbaits due to higher usage. Swimbaits are still a fairly new technique to the tour and there were only a hand full of guys throwing them. The idea that swimbaits only work in clear, trout infested waters is slowly finding its way out of mainstream thought.

You can't go for reaction strikes with swimbaits nearly as well as you can with jigs and T-rigs.  For that reason, jigs and soft plastics will always be at or near the top of the list, IMO.

I can see anglers who have 4-5 good tournament keepers needing that one good kicker.

   Now, back in the days, most of the old pros would have reached for a big jig looking to pull that one kicker to super size his catch.

  I could see if the conditions are right, a guy opting for swimbait over the jig, again, that just depends on what lake and what species.
