Best Hook & Rig For Big Plastics?

Featured Replies

What's your opinions on the best rig for big plastics? What's the best way to avoid missing those fish that only take the back half of the longer plastic worms? I rigged up a worm where I threaded the hook and line through the bait and then rigged it weedless about 4-5 inches from the tail. I haven't been able to try it yet on an actual fish, but it doesn't seem to take anything away from the action that I have noticed. The particular worm I'm referring to is the Ragetail Thumper worm. Thanks fellas

5/o or 6/o t-rigged. With bigger baits just allow another second or two before setting the hook after you feel the initial thump. It doesn't take long for the bass to take it all in.

I have better hook-up rates when I use 5/0 EWG-style hooks with big plastics.

i usually don't go bigger than a 4/0 but do carry 5/0 and 6/0 for those twelve inch worms. Baits that size don't get thrown on my boat very often but definately texas rigged. No other way IMO

I have caught a few bigens on the Manns Jelly worms with a #6 wide gap Gama! haven't seemed to have missed one yet.

I'm using the 10" version of the worm. I switched to Gamakatsu's Monster EWG 6/0 hook. Let the games begin.
