Ive seen lots of information on chatterbaits and people raving about them are they really good or just useless junk?

The produce for me down here in southern FLA. 

I like them but I just started using them last year.  I use them pretty much wherever I would use a spinnerbait and then some other places as well. 

Personally, I think they are more versatile than a spinnerbait.  You can fish them extremely slowly and they still put off great vibration.  When you fish them fast, they put off a ridiculous amount of vibration.  Fish really nail them when you are fishing them fast too.

Another nice thing about chatters is that you don't have to worry about them getting bent and not running true like can happen to spinnerbaits after a few fish.

I was nosing thru the local tackle store a couple of weeks ago and he had a box of them on sale for $2.98 ea. so I bought a couple.  The color selection in that box wasn't the best so I chose one in chartreuse and the other in white with red mixed in.  Caught fish on the white one last Wed.  They really thumped it.  Love the vibration it puts out.

I'm gonna have to disagree for part of this statment.

Chatterbaits do catch fish, and on multipal colors, however, they will attract smaller fish. I've caught 1 1/2 lb'rs on them, and a few 5 lb'rs too.

I throw mainly the 1/2 oz Pure Poision chatter baits.

Tried one for the first time friday on my local river and had one of the best days of fishing yet, i used the mini 1/4 oz. size in shad color and really wacked em......i have 5 more on order from tackle wharehouse as we speak.....don't want to be caught short

Caught a 1.4 pound bass on Buggs Island today using a white Chatterbait.

Caught another on a Senko and lost one at the boat on a spinnerbait.

Caught many bass in tidal rivers and ponds on Chatterbaits.

Be sure to add a trailer hook.

Give 'em a try. 

They are great baits to use around the grass lines.

I found that bouncing them off the bottom about a foot to a foot and a half works great, more often than not they will hit it on the fall, so you will not feel much of a bite, if any.

I prefer the Pure Poisons too but they are difficult to find.  BPS and Cabelas don't sell them and there's only one local place that does (Sportsman's Warehouse.)

I really like them. Epically when I am fishing flooded grass or other kinds of flooded cover. They can be a great fish catcher, theres no denying that.

Just another tool to use.  I do like them very much though. 

The bass like those style baits, that is all that counts.

I bought all of the Pure Poison's in the Cabela's in Hartford when they got down to 0.99 a piece, lol.

I agree on the fish size issue. On some lakes I won't throw them after I get five because they are good for limiting out. Where as on other lakes they seem to catch quality fish. Either way I have yet to break 5 pounds on one. Did hit an 11 pound pike on one though.  ;D

I didn't give them much of a chance at first.   My GF loved to throw them.

   She is very inexperienced basser at the time.   It didn't take long to see if inexperience was getting hit alot and she didn't know how to impart ten kinds of motion to them, pretty much chunkin and windin.

   I think Tom Redingtons success on Falcon with his modified chatterbait opened my eyes to her success with the basic model.

    I can tell ya, you can fish them like jerk baits, like spinner baits like buzz baits, eratic, yo-yo.

I am learning a bunch of easy modifications that have produced.   

Great bait, best blade bait to come out in along time.

 

Check out the KaRu Vibrashock.  Very high quality and fantastic colors.  I have had great success with the Extreme Bluegill this spring.  It is designed so that the blade actually taps the football head, resulting in more successful hookups because the fish orient on the head of the lure.  I have only missed 1 fish all year with it so far.  I put a ZOOM Fat Albert grub as a trailer on mine.

Pure Poison for me as well.
