Short answer is YES, but modified, the rig is a spreader and very similar to an umbrella rig.  We used the rig for silver bass using live minnows, catch them 2 at a time.  Been 50 years since I've used that set up.

BTW are you from Rode Island or Rhode Island ? ;)

There are guys I know that use it to troll for Stripers..but they use soft plastic small swimbaits.

Never heard of anyone using it for Bass..

stripers are bass  ;)

I'm pretty sure Strippers are from the same family as perch actually.

They are very common for Strippers on the Cheasapeake, but they use big plastic swimbaits.  I've only seen people use umbrella rigs in fresh water for cats.

Stripers are members of the moronidae family. Perch are part of the percidae family.

As for the question, I would think you could fish for LMB with a spreader rig but it would have to be pretty light. The big ones create a great deal of drag so they require heavy gear and are trolled. The obvious problem I see is casting. I would think it would be very difficult to cast the lures without them getting tangled. Trolling would probably work if you could find a small version.

If I were fishing for stripers live eels are a good choice or a snookball or a cuda tube..........stripers love them.
