Fishing Small Rivers And Creeks

Featured Replies

There are some small rivers and some decent creeks around where i live i would like to try fishing some. the river is probably average 30-40 yards wide and has some pretty deep pools and the creek is probably 20 yards wide and is probaly 5-10ft in its deepest parts. the currents seem to be pretty good in both. what kind of techniques and styles of baits would you use to fish in them?

They stay that deep in summer?

Tubes, Inline Spinners, Pop-rs, Jitterbugs, Yum Crawbug, 3" senkos

Tubes and tiny brush hogs.

i have fished a small river/creek similar to what your talking about since I was about 8. In this order

-single tail grub, experiment with colors. My best are green pumpkin, black, chartreuse.

- Yum Crawbug, as a jig trailer, T rigged, c rigged or a keel weighted hook

- Rebel Pop R

-Chartreuse spinnerbait

-Clown colored X Rap, XR6 size

- Baby Rage craw in any color

- jig with Yum Crawbug trailer.

- wacky rigged Senko

-a BPS leech on a drop shot

-Zoom Trick worm fished on a shaky head

-Bomber Model A in Bengal Firetiger color

- MEGASTRIKE on everything

When I hear small creeks I instantly think small mouth. Any sort of finesse jig but also try a brown colored craw crankbait. In the creeks by me I have some very good success with brown crankbaits in shallow creeks.
