Help With Snakeheads, 2 Major Questions!

Featured Replies

Hi Gang! so in recent days I accidentally hooked 3 snakeheads in my canal :-) all three times on a shad swim fluke. Now I hear they're delicious so I would like to catch and eat one!

So my questions are:

1) From your experience, what works best on snakeheads in S.FL. canals? I hear they'll attack anything, and was told frogs are good. What's your advice?

2) Deep fried? Grilled? Boiled? What's a good recipe? I prefer deep fried, but if I catch on large enough maybe I can make few different dishes out of it :-)

Thanks!

M.

Filet, olive oil, salt and pepper, grill untill done!

There is no bad way to cook them because the flesh is just that good. They will hit anything. try using a bait that you are not fond of, since it will be destroyed. Spinnerbaits, swimbaits all work but it is hard to beat a topwater frog.

I love them cut into fish nuggets breaded and deep fried. Or filleted and fried fish subs. Best fresh water fish ever.

Those 3 accidents you had were probably the most fun accidents you could have freshwater fishing unless you hook a snook or tarpon.

I use frogs(buzzing and hollow body), creature baits, rage shads, lizards. Ive never caught one on a spinnerbait...yet. You could just keep throwing the swimming flukes up top, there is a boring video on youtube where that is what they used. Ill link it, its no Captain Shane video, thats for sure.
