I am just getting my feet wet with big swimbaits, and I am was wondering if braid affects the swimbait ability.

I will tossing a 6'' huddy baby bass, and some 5'' mattlures blue gills.

Any advice will be appreciated, and if you use a specific set up that works for you, what is it?

I think its alot of prefrence but if your going with braid you should go with a flouro leader. Most people who throw swim baits opt. for flouro,

I myself would go with Mono. one it sinks and has a bit of give and with braid I think you will loose some fish that you would have caught using mono!

i use mono for everything just fine, havent found a situation where i felt i would 'need' to use braid...

use mono all the way down, or use braid with a mono/flouro leader. All mono will stretch.  Braid with a mono leader will have slightly more stretch than with a flouro leader. So if you want stretch, go all mono,if you want a little give then go with a mono leader, if you want no give go with a flouro leader.

I'm just learning about swimbaits myself and have started to toss 6" & 8" Huddlestons, as well as the 6" Stocker Trout in baby bass.

I started to use Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon, but have since stripped it off my Ambassadeur 6500C. Way too stiff with tons of memory. Not to my liking at all.

It was suggested, on several dedicated swimbait sites, that I try this Triple Fish "Perlon" monofilament from Germany. Really quite inexpensive. Suppose to be "the" line for tossing big baits! I just got in my first spool today - 520 yards of 25# test. We'll see.

Yup..some will use braid with or w/o a leader. I do throw my 9" lunker punker with 55 lb braid, 6" baits, I use a coployly, 8" braid with a 25lb leader, or straight braid if the water is stained, and has alot of weeds ect.

mono does sink , it just sinks slow. anyway use a good co-poly line like Izorline XXX , Gamma co-poly , or P-line CXX . Triple Fish is okay , it has a ton of memory tho , the guys who use it usually replace it after every outing , it is cheap so it ain't a problem . with those small baits , 15 lb. line would be fine , and if you go with braid , 50 lb. power Pro would be plenty .( with baits that size , i have thrown them on 12 lb. CXX ..............

I prefer mono for swimbaits.
