Featured Replies

i was at bassproshops looking at som reels yesterday because i want to buy a new one. I narrowed it down to 2 that i like the most but i dont really kno what makes a reel a good reel? I like the basspro pro qualifier and the shimano citica 200g. which is better or will last me the longest time? thank you for the help everyone.

I'm pretty sure you'll love a Citica, but either one is fine. I've never owned a PQ, but I've owned the whole line of Shimanos, and from my experience, they are very well built, comfortable, user friendly, and fish great.

Shimano builds the Citica. The low bid builds Bass Pro products.

Bass Pro Shops is a retailer, they don't actually make anything.

Shimano designs and manufactures all of their reels. They have

built a reputation among fishermen who care: Strong, smooth,

silent and reliant.

They are both good reels at those price points(PQ is on sale right now). What I would do is go there and put the reels on the rod you will be using them on and see how it feels in your hand.

If you can afford it I'd get the Citica.  I like the profile better than the PQ, HOWEVER, the PQ is still on sale and at the price at it is now it would be a "better" buy than the Citica.  So you'd have extra cash to buy other things lure and such.  Still the Citica performs a little better than the PQ in my personal experience, I own both reels.  They both are great reels though and you definitely can't go wrong either way.

I would go with the Citica boss. The PQ has a good track record, but the Citica is a really good buy too and will be slightly better IMHO. I like the E styled platforms over the G, but that is preferential.

I have or had both. I was not impressed with the Citica at all. For the 130 dollar price tag, I think the Revo S is a much better reel. If you want even nicer and want to stick with Shimano, jump to 160 and grab the Curado. I've got two and love both to death. One is my tube rig which gets used year round and other is my swim jig rig which is used alot!

That said, I have the PQ as well. It's my cranking reel and I've had it for about a year now. It was used when I got it. It's been running perfect. I don't think any reel in the 80-100 dollar price range can compete with it. You get both breaking systems and a metal frame. I've been trying to replace it with a Chronarch for about 2 months now, but everytime I go to buy one, I stop myself because the PQ is still running strong.

From a guy that owns both, the Citica is the better of the two reels performance wise.  Price wise, its tough to beat the PQ on sale.  Atleast with the Citica you will be able to get parts for it 10 years down the road and then some.

I've never fished a pro qualifier but I have had friends enjoy them

I however stick to what has worked for me...shimano reels. I've fished the citicas and curados. Both great reliable reels that function day in and day out for me.

I do fish an abu garcia winch on my crank bait rod...it was on a great sale. So far so good!
