I'm about to take the time to stockpile GPS locations for some fish attractors, shelters and other manmade habitat that I found on the internet. It is a 40,000+ acre lake and anybody can find these points on the internet but I figure it's worth plugging into the graph.

 

Have any of you guys done this or do you feel it is a waste of time?

What site did you use to find them? If tried fishidy.com it works pretty good. Just wondering if there are others?

My guess is it's a waste of time until it's not and you will never know unless you try them.  So no, it's not a waste of time if you want to do it.

There are a lot of spots marked that just are not there anymore. Sometimes the currents move submerged logs or they are cleared out by dredging and things of that nature. You only know exactly where they are once you map them on your sonar.

I was referring to some publications my local Game & Fish agency released. They built some "crappie condos" or artificial structures and placed a ton of them on my home lake 2 or 3 years ago.

 

My logic was if a crappie will hang out there maybe a bass will too, or maybe the bass and stripers will cruise by for a crappie sandwich.

 

The locations aren't secret and I thought maybe people are cynical because they feel since the info is public that these spots would be overfish or highly pressured.

I've tried what you're talking about on Greer's Ferry, but not Lake Ouacita.  I didn't find any of the shelters that are on AGFC's online map.  Let us know if you have any luck.  I'm curious.

The most common issue with published waypoints is the accuracy of the unit that creates them, the accuracy of the position format numbers themselves, and the accuracy of the unit trying to find them.

Is fishidy free?

I'm sure your unit has a spilt screen that will combine traditional sonar with your down-scanning.  I'd use that screen.  If I understand these units correctly, the traditional sonar will detect a larger area because it still uses a cone, while your down-scanning will give you a crisper picture of what's right under the boat.  I tend to see things with the sonar before they show up on the DI.  Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.  I don't claim to know it all and am still learning on these units that are changing faster than I can keep up.
