Do You Trim Your Chatterbait/boogee Bait Skirts?

Featured Replies

Most of us use a trailer with these baits, and I was wondering if any of you trim the skirt back a little to help with trailer action?

I trim the skirt basically like I do on my jigs.  I trim just below the hook bend.  I thin my skirts if my bait is bulky or I want a smaller profile.

Yup. trim the skirt the same way I trim my jig and spinnerbait skirts.

Never had a problem with them right out of the package. But if it enhances your confidence, go for it.

I normally do but just enough to let the trailer flow...not shorter than the length of the hook.

Maybe on average I take about 1/4" off of it

I dont trim mine, I just throw a keitech on the back and call it good lol.

I like to leave mine a little longer to give it more bulk and I like the flow of the skirt during the retrieve.

never have trimmed mine.

never trim them, they help hide the trailer hook

Trim the skirt, no. Sharpen the hook, yes.
