LOL ok J/K on my last post, I also have 2 Compre rods, one 6'8" MH/F with a Curado, and another 7' with Citica, both great rigs as well. I guess I go Shimano becasue LgMouthGambler told me to do it :-) , errr, I mean because back in my bicycle racing days I had Shimano parts and they worked great, so I sort of have a sentiment for the company.

I love my 56* sand wedge, it feels like it is a part of me, but I am not about to play a round with only my sand wedge. In golf you can have 14 clubs for a reason, each is designed to acomplish a certain task. I take much the same approach in fishing, each rod has a purpose, a time and place. If I did not fish tournaments I might not be so adamant about multiple combos, but just one rod does not cut it for me. minimum of 7 should work but in tournaments I bring close to 30 combos.

Now-a-days I couldn't do all I want with just one, but I could maybe get away with two rods. In fact, at this stage in the season, I'm only taking two rods in my kayak:

 

6'3" Avid MLXF spinning

6'6" Premier MXF casting

 

I primarily fish soft plastics, but have with me a box of hard lures including cranks, lipless cranks, some spinnerbaits, and an assortment of others. My M rod handles most of the lures, the ML can handle some of the lighter stuff, if I even throw hard lures. They're with me, just-in-case.

 

Anyhow, I do not fish as many techniques like a lot of the folks here do, so I don't *need* a lot of rods (though my wife says I have too many). The two I mentioned have replaced my Compre rods, a Quantum, and a Field & Stream on the yak.

 

Not that I won't take some of those with me at times, but I have become a huge fan of St. Croix of late, and they're more than adequate to the task(s) I am using them for.

I have my "favorite" rod i use more then others but that is mainly because i generally use one specific technique then others. one rod for bass fishing just won't do it. If i had to narrow it down i probably could get away with 3 rods

I use one rod most of the time because I fish the same place most of the time. I think 2 rods covers most of my applications when I'm shore fishing. When I get a chance to rent a boat and heading to a lake I haven't fished before, I bring all my rods including my tackle.

Having one setup was more than fine until I discovered this place.

Now I have 5 setups and wish I had several more...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh grasshopper, there are many teachers here that will show you the path to enlightenment! As you grow into this infatuation, a single combo will seem downright crazy! At that point, you will have taken a big step.
