I recently picked up a few z9r swimbaits at bass pro. I can't get them to swim on a steady retrieve. The hooks keep getting tangled with each other and in the fabric between the joints. Is anyone else having problems? ............Thanks

I am not cutting on your choice, so just listen.

Take the money you are going to spend on multiple inferior swimbaits and purchase just ONE good one.  You will see why the baits cost as much as they do, because they work.

I did the "cheaper" route when I started and had the same exact problems.  I had Fourbizz tell me the same thing I just told you and I didn't listen at first.

Save yourself money and headaches in the long run; buy a quality bait.

6" Hudds are GREAT!

don't listen to these guys. Ask a member named Fourbizz. He uses these baits in California to catch HUGE largemouth. He has some sort of modification he does to keep them running correctly. I'm sure he'd be willing to share if you send him a PM.

Haha. To be honest though, I got them in a trade. And to be even more honest, I don't think they are THAT bad. I caught one fish on them. On the real speak though, I'd like to do a Beyonce' and "UPGRADE THEM."

Another that agrees with Speed..for about 20.00 you can get a 6" BBZ hard bait, or for about 17.00 you can get the Huddelston 6" softbait, which is also available in a weedless version..but hooks set can be a problem.

These baits while not the super spendy baits, will and do catch fish..you just have to Commit to them.

I'll give ya that one.  I saw the 5" TT in the water last weekend and it actually looked really good.

Bass were in a negative mood, but the pickeral seemed to love it.

I had a mini z9r that wouldn't run right. I took of the rear hook and split ring for starters. This solves the problem of the hooks getting tangled and allowed the tail twice as much action. The bait is so small that only one belly hook is needed. The bristles in the tail where very stiff from clear coat that was sprayed on the lure. I broke all of that stuff loose and trimmed the tail bristles down to about half of the original size. This bait has an unbelievable S motion now. You can reel it very slowly now and still get great action.

I got one of these over the weekend (just getting into swimbaits and it was cheaper than others) and only threw it a couple of times so far. I have also read a bunch about taking off the back hook, so I've now done that and will see how it works next time I go out.
