Daiwa Peanut II - great lure, shiza hooks

Featured Replies

So I learned an important lesson about these lures last night. The stock hooks are the cheesist, most worthless kind on the market... I actually smooshed one with my fingers.

I have the white one and the blue \ chrome. They produce nicely but the fragile hooks are a serious flaw.  :-[

Live and learn I suppose.

I really dig the peanut baits. I've caught a lot of fish on mine as well. While the stock hooks are sharp, they are a very light wire and are easy to bend. I replaced mine with size 6 short shank mustad hooks.

I love the bait but the hooks are poo. ;) mustad hooks are great perhaps I use something like this as well.

The hooks that come on them are a size 8. You'll need to replace them with 8s or use a short shank 6, which is what I did.

Noticed the same thing. Very nice baits -I like the Shad too. But the hooks need to be chucked.

I actually broke one of the hooks on a fish, instead of a treble it is more like a double now. Great lure though.

I find that quite disappointing.  I purchased Team Daiwa crankbaits many years ago and found them to be about the sharpest on the market.  I had once experience where the hook actually pierced the bony lip plate.

Such is the nature of the industry.

Seems there are different quality lines within Daiwa lures. The Peanut and ShadMaster are less pricey than others. Both the aforementioned are very good plastic plugs, with poor hooks.

Another good small plastic is the Cordell Big O. I like all sizes but the little 1/4oz has been especially good.

I replace all my hooks with owner st-36 or st-41 wont look back either, super sharp!

I started to use the Owner ST-36s when the factory hooks on my baits get worn.  O.S.P and Imakatsu come from the factory with excellent hooks.
