Getting Frustrated....

Featured Replies

I'm not trying to be an attention ***** but I had to vent. This is getting ridiculous. Since I've joined this site I have fished nearly every day (from the bank) with only one small fish, my daughter caught one, and maybe 4-5 bites total. Sure, I understand everyone gets skunked and I don't expect to yank them out every day but how about one or two decent fish once in a while?

Plus, on top of it I've lost about a dozen jigs. (good knots, just snagged)

Sorry, I just needed to vent as this crap is taking the wind out of my sails.

Thanks RW, that was one of the first articles I read when I joined. Unfortunately it has not worked for me. Today for example the first thing I did was walk up and down a bank about 100 yards each way casting a Senko. Water was very clear and I tried not to spook fish. I used a Green Pumpkin Senko with no weight on 8lb clear mono and a spinning outfit. I tried to fish it in accordance to that article and did not have any luck. The bank doesn't have any visible cover but I see a crap load of small (<10") bass.

If it's possible try to fish a different spot then if you start producing somewhere else you will have the feel of catching fish... Then go back to the spot that you have been having trouble at....

I would try topwater, maybe you will be able to atleast locate a few fish...

~You will catch fish, the next time you go out pretend its the first time you have been to that spot... Forget about all the days that didn't work out there...

~The fish can taste frustration and they don't like it...

Part of your problem, in terms of size, could be the fact that you only see 10" bass. It's possible the fishery you are at does not have a healthy population of large bass nor the forage to support the population that is there. Also, if you are limited to the bank and the area you fish is heavily pressured, the larger (older/smarter) bass may have moved away from these pressured spots.

It could be beneficial to contact some knowledgeable authority on the body of your water you're fishing to see if it produces big bass in the first place. From there, if the body of water does produce larger fish, focus on catching fish first. What I mean by that, is try a variety of techniques until you discover the favorite forage for the area. If you have little to no luck on jigs, it might be that crayfish are not the primary targeted forage. Thusly, on some of your next trips try a shallow running crankbait (like the mann's baby 1 minus that runs 1-3 feet. This will help you avoid snagging the trebles fishing from the bank) in a variety of colors. If that doesn't produce, continue to experiment.

Most importantly, when I my adventure was just beginning, the most important advice I received was to keep my line wet. The more you keep your line in the water, the better chance you have of catching that fish of a lifetime. Keep at it and it's only a matter of time.

Unless it is digital, even a broken clock is right twice a day.  So even if you were doing a lot of things wrong, you should be able to pick up a fish or two here or there-unless the fishery or location isn't very good.  Try someplace else-a different lake or part of the lake.  My other thought is this:  mix it up a little bit.  If one thing doesn't work, try something else.  Fish the entire water column starting with the top and working down to the bottom (or vice versa).  Don't stay with anything too long until you figure out where they are or what they want.  Maybe leave your gear at home one day and see if you can shadow a known successful fisherman.  Ask a lot of questions.
