Jigs with a Wire Guard

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if they make jigs witha wire guard instead of those brissels?

Thanks!

Not knowing which style you are after, here is one that I have used:

It is an Eakins Spider jig, single cable. My favorite color was Black Olive (black/green) since discontinued. I used it around wood, it may be better in a rocky world. I worked it slow.

I think Terminator makes a finesse jig with a double cable guard. Sure there are others also.

Thanks Papa_Tom!

What I am looking for is the wire guard that actually hooks on to the hook point.

you don't need either if you use critterbait jigs..i use them almost exclusively and they are great..weedless as you can get..i LOVE their swim jigs with a RI beaver on them!

but, if you must have a wire guard..rodstrainer jig-n-pig are great too..these are the only jigs i use!

I have some bass flies with a weedguard made of heavy mono attached to the head of the fly and the other end attached to the hook bend.  I wonder if this would work for jigs?  Regarding the bristles, I've been trimming the bristles down so they go just beyond the hook point.  Some guys trim individual bristles or split them in two bunches and tie off each bundle with a piece of mono.  Anyone have any experience with these techniques?

Just noticed that I've got two stars now!  An official junior member.  When do I get my decoder ring?   :)

Prom - Those Critterbait jigs look awesome - I love the idea of having the trailer on top and skin hooking it to make it weedless.  I already have my order in!

Tucson - Thanks for the tip and I'm pretty sure your Decoder Ring is on the way.

Thanks Bill

don't need wire guards...just trimming the fiber guard at a 45 degree angle works excellent
