First Jika Rig Fish

I've heard about the jika 'z-ka' rig but never tried it. So last night I went and bought some bell sinkers and made a few up. I was using a 4/0 gamakatsu superline ewg with 1/2oz bell sinker and a number 2 split ring.  I fished for about 2hrs and only managed 1 fish but she was a decent one. Pitching a brush laydown with craw and it was perfect. Drug it up over a big limb and she nailed it on the fall down. Weighed 2.5lbs and was 17" long. Nice fat female ready for spawning.

Nice fish man, I just started fishing a jika on friday myself. I missed a hook up on one and landed the second about 14" so you did better than me :eyebrows:

I had basically the same setup, I had the line wrap the sinker a couple times so on sunday I added a swivel to tie the line. See how that works maybe tomorrow.

Looking online you can find so many variations. But so far so good I like having the bait off the bottom and being able to give some more action on drags and slight movements.

I was trying a baby brush hog but am dying to put a rattle snake on there and see what that does for me. Well good luck, hope we both have continued success with our new rig.

From all the info I've read on it. You just use it like a Tx rig but it presents the bait a little off the bottom. Kinda like a very very short C rig. Drag it across the bottom, pop it,lift and fall. I was just pitching it into the laydown and bringing it up over the limbs letting it drop on the other side.
