Polished Drag Washers

Featured Replies

I keep reading articles of how to improve your drag. I was wondering if anyone has polished there drag washers and did the extra effort make a difference. This past weekend I did clean and re-grease my bionic baitcaster reel. But didn't polish the washers. That make a big improvement. Just wondering if the extra effort was worth it.

Thanks Ed

Yes, along with polishing the spool shaft and the inside of the pinion gear, etc.

Up grading the drag washers to Carbontex from Smoooth Drag is an affordable and real improvement for drags. Polishing the metal washers will help as well but not nearly as much as the upgrade. As for polishing spool parts (Super Tuning) be sure you know what you're doing. For example, only the part of the shaft that rides in the pinion should be polished.
