Preferred Curado, D Or E

Featured Replies

For those who have used both, what model did you like the best and why? I like the feel of the E a slight touch more (comfort), but the D is a super solid little casting machine for sure (100 size). Both are great reels no doubt.

i did not like the tank-like proportions or weight of the 200Ds but the 100Ds were absolutely terrific. still, i like the Es a lot more...their shape is still about the most comfy in my palms that i've found.

I have found both to be great reels. Can't go wrong with either. Only noticeable difference to me is the actual weight of the reel.

I prefer the 201D's over the 201E's in both the Citica and Curado, but I like the 51E better than the 101D Curado.

I like the 100D and the Curado 50E equally well.

The 100D is a "solid" feeling reel, like you could abuse it and be ok.  Casts like a dream.   I WAS going to upgrade it with new bearings just to see what would happen, and then I thought, "Naw!"  don't mess with it.  Had it on a Dobyns 702C finesse.

then I bought the Curado 50E, and it was a delight!  Smaller and lighter.  But a little "fragile" feeling, although it really wasn't.  Casts very smoothly.

I think the main difference is that I like the 50E for the very light baits.....1/16-1/8-3/16 shakey heads and wacky worms.

I like the 100D for a little larger bait....a 1/4oz medium crank, a Rage Rig, a small jig.

Both can be used interchangeably.  I find that I cannot give up either one in favor of the other.

Sorry for the confusion fellas. I was referring to the 100 size reels. The 200 E is a 100 size reel with extra line capacity, so I guess that could be considered one plus over the 100 D. The D feels a little more solid to me, perhaps the aluminum vs. graphite thing - don't know. The D seems to cast plugs a little further with a little less effort, but the E seems to handle a lighter bait better (not talking true finesse). The E is nicer to palm. I can't decide if I just wanna keep both, or par with one to make room for something else (likely regret it).

E's all the way.

Both can be used interchangeably. I find that I cannot give up either one in favor of the other.

This pretty much sums it up for me, as well. Great reels!

Unfortunately my first 100d was stolen and I replaced it with a 200e7. Now I am trying to make all of my reels 200e5s or 7s. I absolutely love the frame of the e series.

I would gladly buy the new g series but the frame is awkward for me. I would like to buy a 50 size here soon, but I might treat myself to a core.

E's... the d series suck- that coming from a shimano guy

FWIW the Chronarch E series has the frame of the Curado E.

Yeah, but the chronarchs are 200 bucks. Besides, I am still able to pick up e series curados and citicas.

In the comparison between the 100D and the 50E I'd go with the E series. On the other hand I think the Curado DHSV was the best Curado to date, bar none.
