Chesapeake Bay Striper

Featured Replies

So, my boss invited me fishing on a chartered trip out on the Chesapeake Bay out of Deale, MD this morning. I got up at 3:30am this morning and made the drive to my place of work, which was the meet up spot. there was 9 of us going on this trip. from there we made our way to Deale, MD, arriving at 7am. we loaded up and headed out. the target species were stripers, the method was trolling swimbaits on umbrella rigs. honestly ive never seen anything like the setup used to troll, there were over 20 rods out and nothing got tangled. they set out these 3 wooden boards attached with allthread and they floated it. they were attached to the boat with cables, one on each side. they would drop a line out, let it out some and then hook a clip on the cable and the fishing line and space them out along the cable that way, and when there was a fish on the line easily snapped out of the clip. i honestly wish i wouldve taken a picture. the captain and his mate did a great job.

we drew numbers from a hat to set an order for when the fish hit, the limit was 1 fish 28 inches or greater. i drew #4 out of 9. turns out #4 was the lucky number of the day. when my number was up and i finally got bit, it was one of the furthest lines out and also turned out to be the biggest fish of the day. 42 inches long and the only one over 40 inches for the day...
