I know the BPS PQ is a great reel and when it's on sale at $79.00 it's even better. But why don't we hear very much about the BPS Extreme? What are the differences? When the PQ is normally $99. why isn't the extreme a good buy at $89.?

Curious from those with experience with both.

I can't speak for everyone, but I would go with the PQ. About 10 years ago I had a number of problems with several extremes.

The current Extreme has dual braking like the PQ but it works differently. It is an "on all the time" design and is not adjustable unless you do some modifications to it, which is to basically make one or more of the brakes inoperable permanently. Most people don't care for this which is a lot why you don't hear more on this reel.

I have some older models that are closer in profile to the PQ but they are magnetic braking only. There were problems with those models as well so they never caught on like the PQ did either. Also, many people just simply don't like the green colored reels.

The PQ appeals to everyone. It's silver so its color isn't a put off, it has dual braking with the ability to completely override one or both if needed. It's comfortable in hand. It's affordable at full price and a bargain on sale, and it now has a proven reputation to back it up. This is why you hear so much about it now.

I pulled a trigger over the winter on an Extreme when it was on sale.  I bought the 5 ratio one for cranking.  I think it would be better to buy the PQ (I own one) over this at regular price.  If on sale at 69.99 when I bought mine it would be an awesome buy.  Like stated I bought the newer one there is the always on brakes, I think it's an awesome reel to start learning on for beginners since it is forgiving (less backlash if you forget to use your thumb, which even I do at times).  If you are an experience baitcaster user, I'd recommend getting the PQ over the Extreme especially at regular price. 

I love my bps extreme, and im thinking bout getting another.
