Just wondering if anyone on here fished LOW at all?  My parents have a house down there and I fish down there maybe 10-12 times a year. 

Wish I could but Its all private i drive by it all the time is it any good?

I can catch small bass up to about 1.5 lbs...but the monthly tournaments the guys do well...3-4lbs...occasional 5+ lber.   Im fishing on my dads fish./ski boat with no fish finder nor trolling motor....so I dont have the tools I need to be proficcient.   Im a guest since my parents moved down there.  Was hoping to find other guest/members to share info with and possibly fish with.

I have fished it a few times. Many small bass and easy to catch.

The last time I was there 4/23/2013, 3 of us caught about 50 bass in around 3 hours.

There are spawing beds on the submerged dam.

Wayne, I knew there was a submerged d**n, but the protable Depth finder I have, doesnt fit on my dad's ski boat.  And i havent come across a good topo mp for the lake.   Wayne, so the beds are  in 28 feet of water?   not shallow, coves?  guessing the black area of your pic is the actual d**n, and the small white specs are fish/beds??

No, the boat was in 28.5 feet of water, the top of the dam is shallower and on the left side of the image. I don't remember the exact depth but it is about 10'

 

The left side vertical narrow ridge that the beds are located on is the top of the dam and is on the far left side of the left half of the image.

 

The black area to the left and right of the center line is the water column.

My story is similar to yours, DJ.  Parents just moved to LOW last year, which is what caused me to get into fishing.  Just about every weekend you can find me out on LOW, putzing around in my parents' pontoon boat, trying to figure out what the hell I'm doing.  Would definitely be interested in tips, hints, info and fishing with someone at LOW.

 

I've done pretty well this season.  Caught two bass over 4lbs and quite a few in the 3lb range.  1-2lbers are standard fare though.

 

Last weekend the spinnerbait and crankbait bite really turned on for me in some of the deeper coves.  Had a blast.  Up until that point I've mostly been targetting docks with a senko.

 

I really haven't mastered the art of finding and fishing the deeper parts of the lake, though.  I'm really interested in the old dam.  Need to figure out where it is and hit it when there aren't a bunch of recreational boats in the water.

Also, DJ, I would recommend you drive down Route 3 a little ways and check out Hunting Run Reservoir if you haven't already.  I was there this past weekend and it's a breath of fresh air compared to Lake of the Woods.  I didn't catch a single fish, nor did I see anyone else catch a fish (and there were plenty of people fishing), but fishing on a lake that actually has some cover (weed lines, tons of submerged timber) was nice.  And the absence of swimmers and gas engines was divine.

 

$20-$30 and you got yourself a john boat, battery, motor, seat cushions and peace & quiet for 4 hours.  Definitely worth checking out at least once.

Hmm, I might just check that out.  Im actually headed to LOW this weekend.  I know exactly what you mean about lack of cover, well visable cover (lilly pads, grass, etc.).  There are ton's of docks but I havent really figured out or caught any bass near docks. I do know that there are supposed to be lots of submerged Tires, brush piles and man made fish structures scattered throught the lake, but I have to get my dad to install a fishfinder on the fish/ski boat.    So I have to ask, your tag line says LOW is your favorite place to fish.   So you must have some success?   Maybe you can show me a thing or two next time we're both down that way?

 

Hunting Run is easy to fish and you can catch dozens of them easily if you have minimum fishing skills and don't just beat the banks. It is loaded with small bass--has some large ones too.

I have fished there 5 times this year and caught a total of 667 bass with the least number for one day being 63 on June 14th.

One of the better bass I've caught from LOW...think its about 3 plus or minus a few ounces.  I actually found a small school of bass last weekend in the afternoon on a Senko wacky style.   I fish from my dads' fish./ski boat with out a depth finder so I know one or two spots I;'ve caught fish in before.  Wish I had a bass boat or could fish as a coangler on a boat with electronics to do more scouting down at LOW

I currently live in LOW an fish both lakes very frequently. Yes the main lake doesn't have the typical shore line structure most have come to love but there are some bigguns in the lake An with a little time An knowledge you are on the fish.
