Citica E Brake Problems

Featured Replies

I setup my reel with two brakes up and the rest down. When casting, the brakes that are pushed down pop back up causing my cast to stop prematurely. The brakes are pressed down until they click and i have not had this problem with any of my other citicas. Any help would be appreciated

I had this same issue with my Revo S. Seeing a problem with a Shimano is like seeing Sasquatch. Very rare. I have a new Chronarch so hopefully mine doesn't develop this issue, as it has the VBS system too. How old is your Citica?

In all my years of reading fishing forums this is the first time I've ever heard of this problem on a Shimano. I'm not sure the exact cause but I'm pretty sure you're going to need a new brake hub. Shimano should be able to take care of this issue for you no problem if you send it in.

The only thing I know to tell you that you could try on your own would be to take all the pink brakes completely off and replace them with the green ones that come with the reel. See if they have the same problem, if so it has to be the hub, if not then you might just need a new set of pink brakes. Hope you get it figured out soon.

If you could take a few pictures directly level face on of the break hub and maybe one of it at an angle, we could see what your looking at. It could be the flat wide portion of the breaks are worn out, broke or? Or the grooves that catch the breaks are worn.

Take the brakes you want down out of the reel and store them some where. This is what I do with mine I take 4 out and leave 2 in the reel pushed out.

Won't that throw off the balance of the spool?

I'd hate to think that you would be forced to remove them to use the reel properly when there about a gazillion people using them with all breaks installed. Kinda defeats the purpose of having the quick access to add more or shut more down.

I dont have access to a camera at the moment so no pictures. The reel has only been used since March so i wouldnt think it would be a wear and tear issue. I have shimano reels 10 yrs old that work perfect even with very little cleaning, so i was also surprised to have an issue. I will change the breaks and see if that helps if not back to Shimano it goes.

BrettD had the same advice i saw multiple times on another board where someone was having the same problem. I dont really want to remove the brakes because i know i would lose them and i would rather get the problem fixed then have to worry about taking them off.

I would suspect the brake tabs before the hub. If you don't have extras Shimano can send you a set. In the meantime removing the extras will not offset the spool balance.

We have seen this on the newer Citicas in the shop.

The edges of the blocks like to crack and break off, keeps them from locking in the off postion.... :eyebrows:

BNT3505 = reds

BNT2575 = grays

Good Luck & Tight Lines !  :fishing1:

No because the two you leave on are across from each other and balance each other. It also doesn't defeat the purpose of having quick access because how often do you have more then two brakes out. I never have its either 2 for baits 3/8 oz and over and 1 out for 1/4 oz baits. Its actually pretty common for people to take out what the dont use.
