I found cat hair all over the deck today. Boat is kept in a storage yard and the guy who owns the yard runs a cat rescue out of the yard as well so killing them is not an option. The factory cover is designed with 2 cat size openings at the stern and vents on the support poles to help prevent mold growth, so I'd rather not block the openings. A dog is also not an option because they shed more than cats. Will mothballs work? Something else?

i keep my boat in my garage and even though i have a cat, i have never found evidence of the cat being in the boat.... maybe its because the stupid cat much rather sleep on the drivers seat of my topless jeep...

 

so, i think the only solution would be to provide the cat with a better place to rest...

 

besides... wont the cat prevent mice from coming in the boat and eating the electrical system?? i know i would prefer to remove cat´s hair from the deck, than rewire the boat..

A plastic crate on its side with a blanket. Sprinkle catnip if it persists in getting in the boat.

Can you sew some mesh soft or hard onto the hold area? That way there is still air flow but keeps critters out.

 

The cover fits relatively tight to the boat. I'm trying to think of something to block it with but still allow ventilation. 

block it and maybe supplement with these.  i work in landscaping so customers ask me how to keep their cats from eating their indoor and/or outdoor plants. best thing indoors is to fill a spray bottle with water and add a bunch of drops of Tobasco sauce and hose down the plants.  if you spray down ur carpet, they should groom and make the connection. 

 

outdoors=sprinkle black pepper all over the flower bed.  cats groom constantly and they don't like licking hot black pepper flakes off their paws. let alone inhaling it with their acute sense of smell.

 

black pepper in ur boat carpet? those giant 32oz bottles are $3 at my discount store.

either and/or both... just don't have a boat honeymoon moment under the stars with the wife.

I've got the same problem. I hate cats but it belongs to my wife........somehow, I'm gonna have to make it look like an accident...........

If I do catch it in the act and I get the chance, I'm gonna use a slingshot and ball bearings to try to get the message across.

 

I hate stupid cats.......I'd like to make some little concrete shoes for the B$%@&(&$ and send him to sleep with the fishes.

Buy some small pieces of wood (there is a specific name for the smaller cuts of wood) like some 1x1's, build a frame to fit over the opening, and fit chicken wire over the frame. Will keep cats out and air flowing. 

Cheap dryer sheets. Get a box of cheap dryer sheets (the kind with fabric softener in them) scatter them all over your boat, in rod boxes, storage bins, etc. This will keep cats, rats, and mice out of your boat. I live back in the woods. My first winter here the rats ate the wiring in my boat. After replacing the wiring the guy at the local Marina on the lake told me about the dryer sheets. Get the cheapest, smelliest ones you can find. There is something about them that cats, rats, and other critters can't stand. The only down side to them is your boat will smell like a French whorehouse until it airs out.

Cheap simple solution to try, get some tinfoil, put it right on those areas where the cat enters. When it crinkles he wont like that, either that or double sided tape on some paper.

 

I know I wouldnt be fond of putting hot sauce or pepper in my brand new boat. The framed chicken wire idea is the next option I would try if the simple ones dont work. Make them tall enough that when you cinch the cover down it holds tight.
