Bass And A Little Fire

Featured Replies

My brother came over for a few hours today to fish in the old boat (14 ft jon boat) before we pick up the new one tomorrow. On the 4th cast just pulling away from the dock i get a nice thick 6 pound bass and we keep going...about 15 min later he has some clamps crossed on the trolling battery I see sparks flying and about 10 seconds later a flame comes up and burns for a few before it goes down...I said "we can't let a little fire stop us keep going" so we did ...we fished a spot that he wanted to try (that I knew wouldn't hold fish) and it gave up a few crappies that was it...we then fished another spot and I hooked what felt like a 14 incher until one about 3.5 pounds came flying out and spit it...we boated about 7 nothing big...until we got to the island in the middle I hooked one around 7 pounds and on the 3rd jump she spit the KVD 1.5  that one hurt bad....back at the dock i got one about 15 inches....all the fish but 1 came on a KVD my brother tossed  a brushawg all day and couldnt' buy a strike on it...we are on a run here for the past 3 weeks we have put one 4 pounds or bigger in the boat each time...

That's a heck of a run you are on!  Keep it up!  And make sure YOU hook up the trolling motor from now on!  No more fires!

It isn't so much us as it is the lake..it's a 100 acre private lake was stocked in the 80's I guess...hasn't been stocked since that I know of...we have about 4-5 people that bass fish it...It isn't managed and fish are never culled {it has 30 pound channel catfish and 50 plus pound flatheads that do the culling)...I talked to some biologist types and they said they weren't sure you could grow bass bigger then this here in Indiana...only thing they thought was if Rainbow Trout could live here that might give them a little more size...I'm thinking about the trout option...
