In Search Of New Spinnerbait Rod

Featured Replies

I broke one of my spinnerbait rods last weekend. I had an older 6'4" All-Star rod. Well I was looking for a replacement yesterday. My question to you guys is this I see that allot of the rod manufacturers are now making +6'9"  sizes. Now I don't need the most sensitive rod for spinnerbaits, that goes without saying. What are you guys throwing for rod lengths and actions? I have liked the 6'2" Castaways and the 6"4" All-Stars, I feel with that length I am pretty accurate with roll casting. Does anyone have the longer +6'9" rods and if so what are your thoughts on them. Thanks for your responses.

If you are using the rod to throw spinnerbaits the added length offers a large advantage in casting distance. I prefer a 7' rod for spinnerbaits.

6'6 MH Gander X Factor Micro guide rod is what I'm using right now...awesome little rod for blades ....I like rods all the way up to 6'10-7' though. I prefer them in that range for accuracy purposes. I don't throw spinnerbaits a mile anyway..it's more of a target bait for me....

I use 7'3". Specifically, I use a Dobyns Champion 733C and think it is an excellent rod for 3/8oz and 1/2oz spinnerbaits. I do tend to prefer longer rods though and all but one that I own are over 7'.

Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits I fish on older BPS Rick Clunn "spinnerbait series" rod. The specs are 7 foot MH, with baits between 3/8 - 1 1/2 ounces. I also use a Dobyns Savy series 734 rod. I am mostly fishing 3/8 - 1/2 oz plus trailer and both accomplish the task quite well. I would use a 6'9 rod but wouldn't want to go much shorter. I don't think it is necessary to go much over $150 on a rod for this especially with sale prices and closeout prices. Lots of options out there for a rod that will be to your liking...

My current spinnerbait rod is a 6'6" All Star Classic Graphite Series spinnerbait-specific rod, rated as H but is really MH.  I love this rod for throwing 1/2 oz. spinnerbaits, but it's hard to get much distance when trying to throw a 1/4 oz. spinnerbait.  It seems like most of the lower-end rod manufacturers (including All Star) are now making their new spinnerbait-specific rods M rather than MH, and I think a 7' M is probably better for throwing 1/4 oz. and 3/8 oz. spinnerbaits.  I have been eyeing that All Star Micro spinnerbait rod for some time now.  I have purchased their "Big Crankin' Stick" and their "Flippin'" rods and they are both excellent rods.

I use a St Croix Legend Tournament, measuring 7ft. Great rod for spinnerbaits and several other applications.

I use a 6'4" All Star spinnerbait rod too, if you need to replace it Falcon rods have a 6'4" spinnerbait rod in their Lowrider series.

Dobyns 733 is my spinnerbait/swim jig rod. Love it.

All my rods are over 7' except my spinner bait rod its 6'6". I prefer a little shorter spinnerbait rod because most of the time Im making short cast and need to be accurate. Spinnerbaits have really bad aerodynamics the blades catch alot of air so long overhand cast are tough. With a shorter rod side arm casting is easier and more effective with spinnerbaits.

ATM I am using the 6'8 sellus rod for swimjigs and spinnerbaits. Work perfect for up to 1/2 oz
