Want A New Rod

Featured Replies

Howdy. I want to get a new rod. Currently I have a cheap rhino medium power, however I want to have more fun feeling the fish throughout the fight more with a light power rod. I would take either a spinning rod or a baitcast rod. I can't seem to find a light power rod that is atleast 6'. I would be using this rod for jigs, shallow diving crankbaits, jerkbaits, and texas rigged plastics. What action would suit those lures best, and can I put my 30lb spider wire braid on a light action rod? Should I even use a light action rod? If it is plausible, could I get a link to a decently priced rod, preferably under $65. Thanks for any help. I was thinking medium light action. Apologies this rod would have to also be 2 piece so I can fit it in my care, I'm searching the web hard can't find what I want :\

Haha wow do casting rods even come in light power?

You don't want a light action rod for throwing all that stuff, trust me. Most medium light rods are designed for true finesse fishing, and what your doing does not fit that criteria. A medium powered rod with a moderate fast or fast action would serve you well. Not sure about the 2 piece rod. I have rods up to 6'10, one piece I can fit in my car. Look at the St. Croix Triumph series. I think they make a 6 foot medium rod for like 70 bucks.

Would I be able to use a light rod if I didnt use texas rigged plastics on it?

I wouldn't recommend a light powered rod for any of those applications. I would use at least a medium powered rod.
