When To Use Certain Types Of Line

Featured Replies

I usually use 50lb. powerpro braid on my baitcasters in about any type of water clarity. But I was wondering if there are certain times when you should use fluoro and if you should even use fluoro on a baitcaster. just some advice about how ya'll use your line in different ways.

You can use fluorocarbon as a leader in clear water. So it doesn't spook the fish. But I use 65# of pp because there are a ton of things in the water where I fish.

I use fluoro on everything except topwaters. To me it gives better feel on slack line bites.

Braid for frogging.

Mono for topwater and some jerkbaits and crankbaits

Fluorocarbon for everything else

Braid for buzzbaits, frogs, jigs sometimes

Fluoro for most everything

Mono for cranks and jerkbaits

Braid for mainline on everything, between 30-80 lbs.  Like Kyle said, I deal with a lot of toothy critters.

I'll use a mono, fluoro, or wire leader of varying lengths depending on the presentation I'm after.

On my b/c's I use braid for my frogging and swimbait applications and fluorocarbon on everything else. Although, as of late I have changed to Yozuri hybrid with no complaints. The braid stays on the frogging rod though.

FC on everything except for one bc set up that I use for frogs and buzzbaits. I also throw big jigs and t rigs on here.

You will get various answers depending on the persons location. I use straight braid on everything.

Mono for crankbaits, jerkbaits, and topwater.

Fluror for everything else.

I used braid for most things a couple years ago but now only have it on one deep sea setup for bottom rigs off boats and piers.  No more braid for freshwater for me.

I only use fluoro on my senko rod for wacky or weightless rigging. Fluoro offers the best slack line sensitivity IMO, but I will not use it on anything else. Braid for all other applications, even cranking, but I use a fiberglass rod for the deep divers.
