Line Noise On Rod

Featured Replies

I just got  Abu Garcia Revo SX and 7' micro magic Duckett rod combo.  When I reel the line in it makes a noise on the rod like the line is rubbing against the graphite.  I am using 12 lbs. line and they are threaded through every eye.  Is this normal or is something wrong?

Does it effect your ability to cast and/or retrieve? Are there any knicks that you feel? If the answer is no, keep fishing. Make sure all the guides are free from debris.

is any of the line touching the rod blank when you are reeling? some guides just make noise like the new microwave guides from american tackle...if the line is touching the rod blank on a bend then the guides are not spaced right and you could have premature breakage so check it out

the line will contact the blank with micro guides.this is normal. tackle tourhas written about it.

There is nothing at all wrong with line contacting the blank on retrieve. There is no danger of rod failure unless the line dips significantly below the blank when it is flexed. As suggested make sure everything is clean and to be sure, run a cotton swab around each guide to feel for nicks. Repalce any damaged guides.

No it is not touching anywhere.  A couple of my guides look bent slightly down, but they might be supposed to be that way because that is the way it came in.

Thanks

Your rod is fine. I have that exact combo and it makes the noise you are experiencing. Both of my rods do that. But there could still be a bur in your guide, check them and see.

Yes the guides are suppose lean forward a little it helps prevent line from rapping around them.

Same as everyone else said, my duckett is bad about getting crap in the guides. Mine is loud but im using 50# power pro so i expect it
