Wondering if anyone has employed any over-sized flies or rabbit strips into bass fishing, using bass gear.  It would seem a nice rabbit strip or naturally buoyant oversized fly would pair well with a Carolina rig or dropshot.  Not really fly  fishing country in my neck of the woods, but I have been looking online for some 4-8 inch flies to give it a shot on some of the more pressured lakes.  Let me know if anyone has any feedback, or issues I may run into.  Thanks.

You may be on to something. Large flies have been used by fly-fishermen for pike and muskie and by salt water anglers for years. BPS has some available, but most fly-fisherman tie their own. White Bass fishermen on the Wolf River (wi.) use big flies on a 3 way river rig (aka. a wolf river rig) with great success. Never know until you try.

I remember seeing that in a bassmaster somewhere that people are using float-n-fly flies for drop shotting.

I dont see why it wouldnt work. I would guess that prob 99 percent of bass have not seen a fur or hair lure.

Tied a carolina rig with a pike rabbit hair fly(about 6")- floating with a tiny pinch weight at the tip of the fly.  Backend floats up and looks like feeding forage...really interested to see what it looks like out of the bathtub, and in the lake tied to a line 50 ft away.

I've been using a jig with a silicone skirt, chenille body and twin tailed rabbit strips. I've been having success on it so far. I'll post a pic for you tomorrow.

Also, used this one earlier in the season, it's torn up now, but I did take a pic of this before I fished it.

The one with the rabbit fur stands up much better.

i've made fur jigs before... never fished them though.

I fished this jig a lot and so far so good. The rabbit fur is tied up to the collar and the chenille body is wrapped over it. I'm sure after prolonged use it will start to fall apart.

Flyfishing for bass can be very effective.

Try the Alabama rig. Put a large fly on a leader attached to the rear hook of a surface popper.

They might not really be what you're looking for but Optimum makes a few soft plastics that incorporate rabbit fur.

Spro makes the fat fly.

Using flies on actual fly gear is actually quite a bit of fun.  A lot of the same principles as gear fishing and similar baits.  A Clouser Minnow is basically just a 1/32 or 1/16 oz maribou jig and it's probably the best smallie fly there is.  Catching bass on fly gear though is very different.  You're able to play the fish a lot more rather than just horse them into the boat.  Plus it's an excuse to buy more gear.  More bass fisherman should give it a try. 

If you are interested in using flies, try employing drop fly rig.  used very effectively inshore saltwater fishing I've used this technique bass fishing..........you just may get a double header, I did.
