Aaron Martens Scrounger Jig Head type baits - How do you fiish it?

Featured Replies

Lots of these type jigheads showing up all over the web-stores and in tackle stores in cities and towns also. I have never fished one of these. What's your best weight, bait, and method for fishing these?

I really like fishing scrounger heads with a fluke, or baby fluke on a 3/8 or 1/4 oz scrounger for bass. These are fairly weedless, so light weeds aren't a concern. you can swim them, as you would a crankbait, you can bottom bounce them, or by using a lighter head, they can be used almost as a jerk bait. I guess you could rig just about any plastic on these such as lizards, swiming Senko's ect.

I also use these for saltwater fishing, I use a 1/4 oz, with 3" big hammer swimbaits for Hali's, sandies, and spotties. If you need to cast out there aways, on a baitcaster, the 1/2oz might be a way to go. I use these on a spinning rig to keep the scrounger as light as possible. These are a must have imho.  ;)

I rig them with a zoom fluke, or a yum houdini shad. I usually use the 1/4 ounce with the large bill. If rigged properly, both baits will swim w/ a very seductive side-to-side, rolling, swimming action.

I have not tried other baits with the scrounger heads yet.

I usually just retrieve them back with a slow consistent retrieve. If I am not getting bites, I will try to start and stop the retrieve, but have had most luck just "swimming" it back.
