Hook size vs. plastic size ?

Featured Replies

What's the rule of thumb on choosing hook size? I just bought some Slurpies 4" ringworms, and was wondering what hook size I should use? And I've been using 2/0 for the typical 5" senko worm. Is that close? Thanks.

The largest one you can get away with that doesn 't interfere with the action of the bait.

Small don 't you think ? 4/0 is more likely

i try tomake sure that the hook gap is atleast twice to 3 times the width of the worm.

the size of the hook for the senko depends on how you rig it.  wacky with a 2/0 circle is fine, can actually go smaller.  Texas rigged you want larger, maybe 4/0

I agree with 4/0  ;)

No one said what size hook for the 4" ringworm?

And what about a thin worm like the Zoom Trick Worm? Thanks.

A 2/0 or 3/0 hook is perfect for 4in. worms while a 3/0 or 4/0 hook is good for 7in. worms

I use a 2/0 offset worm hook or O'Shaughnessy hook for the 4" Slurpies ringworms. For weightless Trick Worms and floating worms, I select my hook based on how fast I want the worm to sink, but I usually wind up using a 3/0 EWG in my local puddle.

1/0 for 3 and 4" plastics.

4/0 for 5-7" plastics.

i use those two size hooks for almost all my plastics i throw. makes things easier since i fish from shore imo.
