Went fishing today. The good part.....My son and I caught 20 bass between us. The bad...... Broke about 7" off the tip of my G Loomis IMX rod. Did a no no. Thought I would be safe lifting a 12" bass over the side of the boat.....WRONG!! I've done it hundreds of times with never a problem....
NOT TODAY!! Oh well, guess I'll just have to eat it.

It won't cost you anything to contact the company. I don't care if it's a Loomis or a $30 rod, no rod tip should break under a 1# load.

That's what I would have thought since I have done that soooo many times with bass that small.

Of course, I wouldn't even attempt it with larger fish.

When fishing rods perform the same job hundreds of times then all of a sudden break, there has to be some sort of user error involved.

At least you didn't close the tail gate on it.

Small nicks over time are the main reason for a rod tip failure.     

Since it's an IMX and Loomis has not revamped that lineup yet, it would still qualify for the Xpeditor service if they deny a warranty claim. $100, but at least you'd have a brand new rod.

I won't blame the rod entirely, high modulus graphite rods aren't meant to flex at certain angles and even if you get away with doing it over and over, eventually it will break. I've witnessed rod tips break with just a few ounces of weeds on the line, my buddy did it as we was going to get the weeds off he lowered the butt of the rod making the tip rise so he could grab his line and get the weeds off. When he did that the weeds on the end of his line came out of the water about 3" or 4" and the rod tip instantly went "snap", what he did was something called high sticking and it is the reason most rods break. I hate it for you that your IMX broke, that is a very good rod but the one big problem with good rods is they are more brittle and require an extra level of care unless you're a sponsored pro and get the rods for free, then feel free to swing fish into the boat.

No user error here. I baby every rod and reel I own. I have 20 yr. old reels that look like they were just purchased.

I actually get kidded about being so meticulous.

All's well that ends well. Got problem taken care of without spending a penny.

Without going into any further detail, new rod is on the way...... WHEW!!!

my poor GL2 got into a fight with a celing fan thanks to my wife...didn't break, but the there is a mark on the back side of the tip...I've put many fish in the boat with it since the hit but I am sure it's gonna pop one of these days

You can get a Wild Card for your GL2 thats lets you get a new rod if it breaks regardless what caused it. Just go to their web site and print the form and send it in. takes a few weeks to get the card, but once you have it, if the rod breaks, just take to any dealer that carries the rods and get a new one, no questions asked.
