Neko Rig

Featured Replies

I stumbled across this rig while just looking at some Japanese tackle websites. It seems like a variation of wacky rigging. Anyone have any insight or information about this rig? Seems like another light tackle, Japanese, fish catching machines that has yet to make way over here in the U.S.

Been using that rig for a few years. Its a floating worm like a swamp crawler with a nail weight in the head of the bait whacky rigged. Big straws work great as a o'ring so you do not go through a ton of worms.

You want to make it better first rig your worm weedless something like this, just reverse the hook and insert your weight in the worm head.

It is the Japanese Shaky Head.

I have used it but I like the good ole Shaky Head better.

Special weights are expensive so use a nail if you are using this technique.

Also, use finesse worms as the special Japanese worms designed for this presentation get their tails torn off by the bluegills.

Give it a try and let us know what happens.  :D

Gobig, you say straws as o-rings? Do you cut them into many smaller pieces and slide them onto the middle of you're worm?

thats a new one here is a new one the Japanese love wacky rigs bassmasters a few years back had one it was a shaky head jig with a wacky rigg fin worm i caught so many smallmouth one it the next year did'nt catch crap on it

Yes you cut the straw down with some scissors into  3/16 inch wide rings. Just slide it up the worm. Megastrike helps them go on easier. You need the fat straws like for slurpees. Make sure that the hook is pointed out. If its pointed toward the bait you wont get good hook ups. I like the tungsten nail weights because of there size plus they make more noise and with this method you wont loose a ton of worms. I have caught a lot of fish on senkos with this method also. Most of the time you can use a #2 dropshot hook but with the senkos I go to a circle hook.
