So I was just wondering if 10lb monofilament line would be too heavy for a 2000 series spinning reel. The reel is a mitchell avocet 2000 series, last year I filled it completely with 8lb big game mono line and it casted like a dream no problems at all, I was wondering if 10lb line would cause any issues (casting distance aside).

Should be just fine. And you shouldnt lose a whole lot of distance.

Not all monos are created equal. A thicker diameter 10lb line COULD be a headache on a reel that size, maybe not. You could always leave your thinner mono on as a base and add about a cast and a half of 10lb on top to see how it behaves itself. Also as an FYI, Ive found not overfilling a spinning reel with mono/flouro helps with line mgt.

A soft mono like Trilene XL treated with line conditioner should handle as well or better than the 8#. Personally the only use I have for 10# line is on a deep cranking setup. For everything else I go heavier or lighter.

I'd probably stay with 8# or maybe look for a thin 10#.  Over spooling can mean coiling (coiling isn't line twist), soak you line in warm water then troll it out before you fish, all you really need to do.  I would not use the 8# as a backing, joining a 10# line to it would create a knot I would find undesirable.  Bottom line, if your 8# is working just stay with it, 10# isn't that much stronger.

Thanks brother, my mono is soft and thinner than the usual ten pound test. Spooled it up today casts just as well and does not coil at all

Leaving this weekend for a week to a beautiful river full of those beauties, nothing huge but it's very healthy, caught a few 4 pounders last summer..hoping for something a bit bigger
