Hello all,

Amateur fisher here. Just starting out and very excited about getting out there! I currently live in Richmond, Virginia, specifically the Short pump area. I do not own a boat so I am assuming my fishing will be limited to shoreline for the time being. I love being out on the water and WILL own a boat in the future, but it's not quite in the cards right now.

Anyway, got family coming into town this weekend and we want to get out there and start fishing. I have read a lot about all the lakes at Innsbrook and looked at the VA DGIF website for the list of lakes and parks. All good information there but wanted to get some opinions from people that have actually fished these spots. Any information like the best times to go (i.e., really early in the am, mid morning, etc..), best spots around the lakes, suggestions for different places, suggestions for equipment on small lakes/ponds etc.

Thanks in advance for any of your help! I look forward to becoming an active member on this site and posting experiences, and pictures!

Lake Rooty on the other side of Nuckols Road in Innsbrook by staying on Cox Road.

Great place to get started.

Park by the office buildings off to your left.

Any of the places mentioned in the 2013 Virginia Freshwater Fishing bootklet you have.

Don't forget to take them to the Bass Pro Shops restaurant for lunch or dinner. Great place. And the bread is outstanding!!!

Then hit Green Top on your way home.

Be sure to take our needle nose pliers with you!

Save time and money...hire a guide that furnishes the gear.

You'll have more fun, catch some fish and not have to make

an investment in equipment you know nothing about.
