Eastern Mass

Featured Replies

I just moved back to MA and I'm looking for some good spots that I'd be able to fish from the shore. Right now I'm living in the Dedham/Westwood area. Anybody know any good lakes or have some tips?

Houghton's Pond & Blue Hills Reservoir are pretty good. Houghton's can get very crowded but has better assortment than BHR.

The reservoir down Wampatuck State park in Hingham is good, and they allow kayaks & canoes.

Welcome back.

Try using Google maps. This is how i find most of my spots.

The BHR and Houghton is out fished....  I saw people fishing for keepers the three times i went. Always get a funny look when I throw them back.

I'm still doing well at Houghtons, I haven't been by Blue Hills since the spring, but now that I see this thread I'm gonna hit it this Friday after work. Next week I plan on going to Buckmasters a few times in Westwood.

I've had decent luck at buckmaster. never got anything huge, 1 lb max maybe. I don't know how it is anymore but I used to take a bucket of shiners and I would pretty much hook a little bass every cast.

i get skunked pretty often at Houghton's too, never been to BHR. i used to fish out of Connecticut a lot but now i'm trying to find spots close to home. definitely in the same boat as you haha. i don't really have the time to fish like i used to though, if you find a good spot and wanna go on a sunday, i'd be very interested in heading out with you!

Yea im in a similar area, im in brockton and im looking for some close by pike fishing that i can get my kayak out on or my jon boat???

I agree with not having much luck @ Houghtons, and I'll support BHR being overfished. I had a great Spring there but August & September have been slow there.

Granted I've only been shut out a couple of times this season, but sizes are down and the LMB I've caught lately are kind of skinny.

BHR is a young pond too, the State finished their tanks there in '08 -'09, which may contribute to the current conditions.

Don't think that you are always shorebound. Some State parks have boat rentals through Columbus Day.....Cochituate for instance and Hopkinton.
