Looking For A Short Med/hvy Rod

Recommended Posts

I just started doing a lot of fishing from the banks of a limited access lake this season. I fish from small gaps between the trees and brush. There are a lot of low hanging trees which make casting difficult.  My best rods are 60", but they are Utra Lights. When I hook-up I can't muscle, or finesse, the fish past submerged branches.  So, I am looking for a short Medium-Heavy spinner rod.

So far the shortest I found was a 5'10" M-H from Bass Pro Shops. I worry that the extra 10" may be too big for my casting space.

Can anybody suggest a rod or link?

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about the extra ten inches, 6' is about the shortest I go. If I encounter low branches, I flip or pitch.  Wish I could help you more.

Ugly Stik has a 5'6" Medium spinning rod, but not Medium Heavy. You're going to have a hard time finding what you seek, I think.

If you're serious about it, maybe Delaware Valley Tackle can custom build one for you. It could be pricey.

Find a old broken mh and hack saw it off till it's the length you like, may only have a few guides but hey it works haha. I do that with all the broken tips on my rods, they still catch fish.

Hey, Moe, NJ is also a state it sucks to live in if you like anything to do with guns!  :sad78:  That is why I have driven 50 miles one way to work every day for the past 28 years.

Delaware Valley Tackle is the sponsor of this particular forum.  One of the things he does...besides tuning and repairing reels...is build custom rods.  My daughter wanted a short rod for Senkos.  Had to be pink.  Mike built her a 6' rod at a very reasonable price.

The nice thing about Mike building the rod is you probably will wind up with a better rod than a factory equivalent at the same price.  Plus it will be made to your specs.  Choose the blank, reel seat, guides, wrap color, handle, etc.

A straight forward performance rod can be built without breaking the bank. Don't rule out custom rods if you can't find just what you want over the counter.

I was amazed at the price Mike offered me to build the rod I'd been looking for.

I'm at the opposite end length wise, I want a 7'6" MH spinning rod.  Mike is making it happen and not blowing up my bank account in the process.

I have that 5'10 BPS rod and I like it. Used to fish the banks in the woods with it all the time. Give it a shot.
