A few months back I went to one of the salvage stores in my area of Maine (Mardins) and purchased

3000 rubber bands to be used as the oring on the Senko's.  I was unsure they would work so kept

the oring purchase small.  Mardins had these for sale at $1.00 per thousand.  Since then I have been

using them full time.  They are made for braiding a horses tail or main and are larger than the orings

we normally would use.  I just twist them on the helper that puts the ring on the worm, and its works

just fine.  Today I was back there, and talked to several people, and the first two said we no longer

have them.  The third person said I think there are still some of them up stairs.  Sure enough there

were still a lot of them, and I bought 7000 more.  Total cost 7 bucks.  They are still cheaper than the

orings we use from a fishing supply place.  These are called  Kays rubber bands size medium,

and size code 205, with 500 in a plastic box.  Walmarts used to carry them, but with a little digging

you might find them around your town.  Also look for them around places that sell horse equipment.

I use farm animal castration bands for wacky rigging. My wife looked at me wierd when she saw the package for the first time on the kitchen table haha

Interesting. I don't use either, but I do use heat shrink from time to time. I cut them into thin strips and slip them over Senkos, Zoom worms, etc. I try to buy sizes such that I have to pull the worm slightly to slip them on so they fight nice and tight w/o heating.

I stopped using the o-rings as often as I used to. I had a lot of fish coming unbuttoned because the o-ring would get in the way of the barb. I went back to just hooking the worm and even though I lose more worms its better than losing fish.

Yikes 3000 .... and that is a small order.   Sounds like a great deal though.

I've seen o-rings mentioned a lot with senkos since I started coming to this site, but still dont get it. Especially with the mention of the ring getting in the way of the barb on the hook.

Can someone post a pic of what youre doing with the o-ring? Im guessing just wrapping it around the worm then putting the hook through the ring?

That's exactly it.  For wacky rigging, put an o-ring on the worm at the half-way point, then run the hook under the o-ring rather than through the worm.  This helps make them last a lot longer.

SHRINK TUBING !!!! best way to go.

can you just wrap the center of the senko with electrical tape and heat it up a tad? Thats what i always used for heat shrink. i may try that out with some yum dingers i have that i starting to rip.

You must fish 16 hours a day 7 days a week, fishing throu holidays etc...

The one thing I know is I will never run out ot the orings.  Now and then I can even give 500 to a friend

if I want.  It doesn't matter I only have a total of 10 bucks invested, and they work great.

I don't want go give my wife any ideas so I will stick with the shrink tubing.

Thats not bad.  I would have jumper on that if I hadn't purchased 10k.

You should be able to adopt all those rubber bands in similar fashion. I like the "Goodies" because they are clear and disappear against the color pattern of the worm. Have been using this technique for many, many years.

My youngin has braces an the ortha doc gives her packs of mini rubber bands for them, I snag a pack or two of those from her from time to time... they work well... I just use two at a time to maintain the same firmness as the original O rings I used before. and I agree... rather then hooking directly through the worm, I like to slip it under the O ring.. but not into the worm. Helps with action on the worm if you ask me.. more a free natural type deal.. an hook up ratio is better as well.
