I have a almost new St Croix, Mojo Bass, Drop Shot rod.  It is 6 ft 9 in.  I was fishing with it the other day and got a lure caught on a low hanging limb, so I was trying to get it unstuck and some how broke the rod tip.  It is broke about half way between the end and the first guide down.  Any thing I can do to be able to still use the rod, like make it a little shorter or am I just out a $100.00 rod?  Is this a problem with St Croix rods or was I just unlucky that day, because other things went wrong that day as well.  It was a Monday, but i did get out on the water for a couple hours.

 I was not pulling on it that hard, at least I did not think so.  It is my first St Croix rod and I like it but really have just used it a few times so far.

I would suggest installing a new rod tip after cleaning it up. They do offer a replacement screw on rod tip now. Bill

St croix has an awesome customer service. You did register your rod online when you bought it, right? Your warranty will cover that. 

Sounds like you're talking about  1 1/2-2" off the tip. If you can't get a replacement you can try heating the tip and pull it off the broken piece. Odds are you'll need the next size up tube but you might get lucky. The new tip top should slide on easily but not flop around.  They are held on with hot glue or epoxy. Epoxy is less ideal if future replacement is needed.

If it's a quality rod I would replace not repair, not that it wouldn't be usable but I want a rod working to it's full potenial.

 

A question that needs to be answered is how the rod broke, without being there I can make a guess.  You pulled with the rod and not the line.  Putting your reel in free spool or opening the bail on a spinner takes all the pressure off the tip, I put my rod down and pull by handling the line only.  I wrap the line around my shoulder and walk backwards, many boaters will wrap the line around a piece of wood and pull.

You were dorking around with the rod, any brand would have snapped, well besides an ugly stik.
