Need Help Picking A Jig Rog From The Powell Endurance Line

Featured Replies

You might remember my last thread where I was asking about the 723 Powell Endurance. Well I got it and I love the thing so much I need another specifically for jigs. The 732 does okay with 3/8th jigs in light cover, but I dont fish light cover that much and the 723 doesn't have the power I need to rip clumps of milfoil off my bait. We are talking serious heavy cover here. I am looking at an Endurance 725 Mag Heavy and would like your opinions. Is the 725 going to be overpowered for this application? I don't know a whole lot about picking the right rod for the right conditions, I'm worried that the 714 Powell offers will not be strong enough to shake vegetation. Thanks for your help!

I dont have experience with the 725 but thats what i would pick if i was faced with lake salad. You might also consider the flipping rods. They will be longer with a slower tip. Good luck! Im interested to hear what others will say.

I have the 714 and the 775.  I love them both, but you cannot beat the 775 for the thick stuff.  Awesome backbone, but doesnt rip out the hook.  The 714 is probably the most versital rod though.  I throw spinnerbaits, football and flippin jigs, and trigs on it up to 3/4 oz.  the 3/8 to 3/4oz is its sweet spot.

For what it's worth, the 714 is my dedicated frog rod. i put my frogs in some nasty stuff, and it does a DYNAMITE job!
