Stradic Fh Bail Spring?

Featured Replies

I have a stradic FH (I think that is the model) where the bail will not stay open uless you get it just right.

I am thinking it is some sort of bail spring but i will show my ignorance here in reel schematics.

Any ideas on if this would be the case or what coudl cause the bail to not remain open when flipped?

Thanks

Does the bail have some tension on it when closed? if so the spring is probably still good. Flipping the bail open compresses the spring which snaps it back over when tripped. Sounds like there might be some debris in the spring housing or hinges.

It does still have tension in the bail when closed.  I will have to check to see if it is gunked up around the hinges or spring housing.

If i can't figure it out, you might get a reel sent your way for repair lol

You might check the bail trip lever also...:Victory:

If the Friction ring has been removed, this will allow the bail to spin to freely when open and will allow it to rotate to the ramp and slam the bail closed. I have seen guy's remove the friction ring, which goes bad and think the reel is working great, till the problem you are describing happens, The friction ring is a necessary part if you don't like your bail slamming shut, the FH is one model I replace the most on.

Capt.Bob is right on. That reel has the old black rubber friction ring that can stretch and get balled up under the rotor and cause a binding. Most anglers remove it and think they have fixed the issue when in fact they have caused another. The rotor gets so lose/free that just the weight of the crank can slam home the bail.

I would suggest send it in....:Victory:
