My buddy Basshunter0731 (Jon) decided it was time to get his youngest son Jackson out on the boat to do some fishing the other day. Jackson has been pond hopping with us from the bank before and does pretty well for himself but he was really excited about his first trip in a boat. We went to a local lake that is loaded with small bass and the very occasional larger one. We rigged Jackson up with a wacky worm and right away he was into fish. I ran the trolling motor and fished a little bit along with trying to coach a little while Jon unhooked fished and tried to give some direction as well. Once he got the hang of casting my spinning reel Jon got a chance to make a couple casts and they doubled up, Jackson posed with the Father/Son double. He caught 21 in a couple hours, I think he's hooked :)

Awesome! I wonder if his Christmas list will look anything like mine around that age....Dear Santa, do you know where bass pro shops is?

Hopefully he has a new fishing pole on his list. He had one of the Skeet Reese spincasting combos but the thing would hardly cast or reel. Luckily I brought a 6' L St Croix Triumph with a 1000 Stradic so he could try fishing a spinning reel if he wanted. He got the hang of it pretty fast and since he's 5 now he's probably old enough to graduate to a spinning combo.

Good for you in helping make some great memories!!

I promise Santa knows were both of them are, he spends a lot of time there already. I don't think anything will match Jon telling me on the phone how he'd found a box with a TW order he'd forgotten about in his garage. When he said "Santa came early this year!" and I heard his daughter, 4 year old Emma in the background respond with an excited "He did!!?" I couldn't breath I was laughing so hard, and he was doing a lot of explaining on the other end :)
