I tried spooling 10# Yo Zuri Ultra Soft on a size 30 spinning reel. I'm having trouble with the line wanting to spring off of the spool at the end of a cast and it lays very loosely on the spool unless I put a moderate amount of tension on the line while reeling. Granted, the reel is a cheap Shakespear Dimension so the line management is not the best, but I have had 10# Trilene (among others) on this reel before with no real issues. I've heard a lot of guys like the Yo Zuri Ultra Soft for spinning reels, and I've used the regular YZ Hybrid on my bc reels before which I liked a lot, but this experience is pretty disappointing. Should I drop down in # test? Or get another line? And yes, I have sprayed it with KVD L&L. Thanks in advance.

Der, never thought to look. Highest is 8#/100 yds... Probably not a "typical" 30 size then. Do you think 10# is too much then?

Just stick with the regular Yozuri. I have 6lbs test on one of my spinners and it comes right off just fine.

I'll probably just put the mono back on to serve its purpose till I get a new one. I'm not planning on keeping this reel forever.

I have no problems with YZ-UltraSoft up to 8lb on 30-size Pflueger spinning reels.  I've never run YZ-US 10lb on a 30-size so I can't say how it would do. I do have 10lb on a 35-size Pflueger with no problems...

My guess you may have over filled the spool.  I've used Yo Zuri exclusively for a very long time on both baitcaster and spinning reel and I've never had any issue.

 

I suggest you check to make sure you didn't overfill the spool and try again.

Also yozuri hybrid is much larger in diameter than say sunline sniper or seaguar invisix. It has a high breaking strength but I want to say the diameter of 10# is close to most companies 12 or 15#. For this reason many will run 6# on spinning gear and 12# on casting as the breaking strength is close 1.5x its rating. I bought 8# for a dropshot rod once and didn't care for it. It now serves as emergency backup line and likely backing for next years reels when I re-spool.

Line is too thick, use a thinner diameter line and don't overspool.

Granted I am not fishing in the same location as you, but 10# seems like an overkill to me on a line known for it its strong breaking strength. Although, I have tried and I am not a huge fan of YZH, I believe dropping down to what others recommend in 6# would be helpful. My biggest problem with YZH was memory and coiling, which would attribute to the problems you are having. With most lines, these issue decrease with line diameter. I use 6 and 8lb FC on my spinning outfits on 2500 size shimanos. 10 would be the very highest I would go, still haven't encountered conditions that have called for it though.

 

Given, you pursue the option of using another line. Seaguar invizX will surprise you with increased sensitivity, especially in slack line conditions. Given you are not fishing top-water presentations. I gave up YZH for Seaguar and Sunline Mid-grade to premium fluoros. I won't go back, but 600 yards for $12 did not leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Thanks! I agree. I really only put the line on because I got if for super cheap and couldn't pass it ups. I already like Sunline a lot, but I may give invizX a try whenever I purchase a new reel.

5,800 to 8,000 yard, one-pound spools for $25 each actually tasted pretty good...

 

I use #6 on my spinning reels. No problems whatsoever. I think #19 is overkill.

#6 breaks at 11.9 lbs. which is pretty stout for spinning gear. I like the way it casts, handles just fine, and is a good value.
