Am I rusty with baitcasters. I'm going to stick with them till I get good again. My question is are you as good with baitcasters as you are with spinning reels??

It's mostly what you have more experience with.  I can put a cast within 6" of the bank from 50' reliably with a baitcaster, with a variety of rods and reels.  With a spinning rod in my hand, it's a total crap shoot because I only use spinning for dropshotting in deeper water.  JMHO, baitcasting is inherently more accurate because it's easier to control.  That doesn't mean there aren't guys out there who can thread a needle with a spinning rod but I think it's more an art form with a spinning rod than it is with a baitcaster.

I grew up with spinning reels.  Last 4-1/2 years I have been using baitcasting reels almost exclusively.  I'd have to say I am equally so-so with both.  Nowhere near as good as most of these guys.

I used Penn saltwater open reels making long casts from shore in the sound. My thumb is well educated in doing this style of casting. I can probably cast with the friction knob loose and the magnetic brakes off at onetime. Now I just need the lure to go in the direction I need it to go. I'm hoping to be as good with the bait caster as I am with the spinning outfit. I'm going to stick with it and stay practicing all winter too. I was pretty good onetime with the baitcastersbut that was a few years back. I should of stayed with it.

I am much better with baitcasters. So much better that I stopped using spinning reels

I used to only fish spinning but I think I got the bait casting bug, I now find myself reaching for my baitcaster more. The only time I really use spinning anymore is for weightless flukes and senkos.

I am terrible with a spinning reel. 

I'm way better with my Baitcasters than my Spinning reels. Just because I use them more than my Spinning reels.

I can use both with extreme precision....both are tools for diff circumstances.just like working on my cars and trucks.I can go from brakes to clutch to intakes in just a matter of switching tools.to get the job done

I want to use my baitcasters more for med 1/2oz to 1 1/2oz spinnerbaits , jigs, drop shots and Carolina rigs. Everything else I'll use spinning setups. That's my plan for now but I'd like to use baitcasters even more in the future. I have 12 New baitcasting setups that range from a micro lite to trolling setups. The ultra lite setup I think will probably be the hardest to learn. The micro lite setup is for crappies and impossible to cast. I know the bait caster reels will run spinnerbaits a lot smoother. I'm not sure about using them for topwater and crankbaits yet.
