On my next fishing trip I want to use a Shakey Head setup. I was wondering the correct size of shakey head jig and plastic worm.

 

I buy most of my gear at Gander Mountain up here in WI. So on their site I don't see many options for shakey head jigs, do they have them in store?

 

The worm I will more than likely use is Zoom Shakey Tail Worm 5". So what would be a good jig for this; size, brand, and where to buy?

 

I will take any advice on fishing shakey head rigs, I just started using soft plastics this summer and I am hooked.

i believe gander mountain carries the strike king football shakey heads. i really like these for area with lots of chunk rock. they come through it really well. for zoom trick worms i usually with a 1/8 or 3/16 oz shakey head on light line. for heavier plastics like 10in worms, rage craws, biffle bugs i like 3/8+ on heavier line.

Sieberts Outdoors shakey head jig.  I use these and will continue to only use these.  The hooks are excellent and 9/10 times my fish are hooked on top of the mouth or deep  on the side of the gill plate.  The price cannot be any better either!!  You  may have to wait a few days but it's better than wasting money.

i like roboworms and zoom finesse worms with no salt.

Suggestions:

Zoom Trick Worms

Zoom Swamp Crawlers

Any plastic worm that has its tail float

Any jig head you want with a strong hook

Any jig head you want that will stay on the bottom

Spinning rod with medium or medium heavy fast action tip

6'6" to 7" rod - personal preference

6 to 8 pound fluorocarbon line

Any hook you want from a 1/0 to a 4/0 depending on bait size

Many jigs have weak hooks. Check out the Provider  or MegaStrike jig heads as they are the best

Pitch and flip it all around

Cast it out and fish it like a Texas rig

Hit all cover and structure you can

Let it sit there with the "natural shaking of your hand" making the worm move

Bounce it up and down

Drag it on the bottom

Do all of the above

Set hook hard over your head

Use scent

WATCH YOUR LINE

KEEP FINGER ON LINE AT ALL TIMES FOR A DIRECT CONNECTION TO THE BAIT

When you see line move or feel the tap-you have a bite.

Bring needle nose pliers to help remove hook

I use the shakey head alot. I most commonly use a 1/4oz Siebert Outdoors head paired with a 6" Roboworm or a Jackall 4.8 flickshake worm. My favorite rod for this rig is a G-Loomis Dropshot series spinning rod. 6'10". And i use Seaguar InvizX in 8#. Hope this helps you.
