Potomac River

Featured Replies

I'm fishing in a junior bass tournament on the 29th out of Aquia Creek and was wondering what the bass are doing this time of year on it. This will be my first time fishing this river so I really dipont know what to expect. I would like to have somewhat of a game plan going into practice on Saturday if anyone can give me any advice on this river it would be greatly appreciated thanks.

i did pretty well out there last saturday (first day post-cold front) in a tourny burning a spinnerbait in clear water.  keyed in on isolated grass patches and made sure i ripped my spinnerbait through them.  they were jumping on it after i made contact with the grass.  it was overcast and windy most of the day, so it was perfect spinnerbait conditions in my opinion.  buzzbait caught a few as well.  we were catching about a 2lb average which isn't great, but if you can get on a good, fast pattern like a spinnerbait bite or a lipless crank bite, you should be able to get your limit early then worry about upgrading the rest of the day.  culled a couple when i started throwing a weighted t-rigged senko around hard cover early in the afternoon when the sun came out. 3/16oz bullet weight is all the weight you should need.

We've been catching them up to about 9:30 and then nothing but a few small dinks after that.  If you check out the BFL results from this past weekend you'll see that it was a rough weekend.  I told my coangler in our local tournament that we needed to catch them all by 9:30.... we caught our last one around 9-ish and didn't get our limit.

Thanks for the advice I'm hoping that the conditions will be good for spinnerbaits because that's my favorite thing to throw any specific color of trap that seems to work better than most?

Thanks for the replies

I love Aquia Creek. Mattawoman and Aquia are my two fav's.

I know Aquia like the back of my hand although it's not nearly as good as it used to be. If you want to know the good spots PM me

everything could change by this weekend, but think yellow perch color combos...PM me if you need any additional details on locations...

also, make sure you've studied the tide chart for saturday.
