For weightless plastics it’s the best reel I’ve ever used

Best Baitcast Reel Of All Time
I fished a 100sf (the gold one right?). I see what you’re saying. That model chronarch set the standard for sure but I feel with the release of the Core and the 100D they were an improvement

Best Baitcast Reel Of All Time
I know this topic has been done. I started a thread like this years ago… but the last few years some amazing reels have come out. Some game changers! I have five that are in no particular order. Antares A - So smooth. A bit heavy but it makes it feel more refined. Can be used for any application. The second best casting reel I’ve ever used. Steez CT SV 700XH - The best casting reel I have ever used. Casts weightless Senkos ridiculously far. The perfect BFS reel. So palm-able Core 50 - Another classic, possibly the last classic Shimano. Used this reel for finesse and frog fishing. So compact and lightweight. Sweet paint job. So versatile and fun to use. Chronarch 100D7 - Wow did I love fishing a Texas rig with this. Just as smooth as butter and accurate for up close fishing. Simple and elegant design. The Metanium MG7 was its equal. T3 Air - I wouldn’t have put this on the list until I used it for smallmouth fishing on an ultra light setup. Works beautifully for weightless applications (not quite as good as the Antares A or Steez CT SV but very good) as well. Everything clicks when adjusted. Can be dialed in as good or better than any other reel.

I'll be visiting Myrtle Beach in mid July and was wondering if anyone knew of a good Bass guide in the area. Thanks!

Baitcaster for Everything
I would say yes. I use baitcasters for EVERYTHING. With finesse fishing you need to buy a higher end reel that can handle the light weight lures. I like a spinning reel for skipping under docks as it’s a little more efficient and others use them for drop shot fishing but me, I use baitcasters 100% of the time

About Sunline Sniper FC...
Love Sunline. I miss the old shooter Green they made. Also the shooter invisible. If I could find some I’d buy them up

I May Regret This
Tie a solid knot and have your drag right. You will be fine. I fish with 8lb FC all the time and have caught LB over 5lbs with it on several occasions. No issues. Now, you cant horse a big fish in like braid but you will get more opportunities to catch them IMO. Just be wary of heavy cover if a fish goes for it. I hooked a solid 5lb LB about a month ago on 8LB FC and he went for a log that was at the shore I was fishing from. I knew I couldn't yank him out of there but I was firm in my resistance and was aware that might happen when the fish got close to me on the bank. Edit: Also, buy quality line

Show off your Stuff
Just picked up this beaut yesterday. A little on the heavy side but size is perfect for me and it casts better than any reel I've ever used before. I was debating on changing the handle over to a carbon fiber not sure yet though. Anyone know how to take the hand grips off the handle?

Shimano Antares HG used as BFS
I picked up an Antares today and I had planned on using it as a pitching/flipping reel for weighted plastics. I’ve been cycling out some old gear and buying new stuff. To make a long story short I put some 10lb fluoro on the Antares to try it out with weightless plastic and I was impressed. Impressed to the point I think I will use it alongside my T3 Air for BFS and buy another reel to use for pitching/flipping. What a great reel. Possibly among the best reels I’ve ever used. The smaller size of this latest model really sold me on it

What Have We Become ?
This is a great topic and pertains to just about every hobby at this point. People have extra time on their hands as well as money and enjoy spending it. Inflation as well. Companies will continue making more and more expensive stuff as long as people buy them. Imagine the next rods to come out... I was blown away at the price for the new Legend Xtreme as well as the Conquest. Wait a couple years and there will be a $1000 rod made by G Loomis, Shimano, Daiwa or St.Croix.

Tidal Potomac Northern Snakehead
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2015/05/20/snakehead-taste-test-can-a-fish-this-ugly-really-taste-that-good-photos/?tid=trending_strip_5 Interesting article in the Washington Post comparing taste to other fish. Im still ticked that Charles County never gave me the stuff they promised me for winning the renaming contest!

Bait Casters?
Dont go cheap but dont go for the top of the line just yet. Great advice above. I'd say a Shimano Curado... then when you TRULY get the hang of it upgrade to a Chronarch or Core to start mastering it. Rod go 7' medium fast. Nice all around rod.

Tungsten Weights
Tungstens are expensive but worth it. They don't scratch your line really. They slide better and make a nice presentation and *click* noise. Better for the environment

That Pixy Type R was almost bought a couple weeks ago but I got the T3 Air instead. Anyone own/used both for a quick comparison? I'd love to hear which is preferred.

I had heard the same thing about the knobs. I would probably prefer another option but I don't think its that bad but I will know better when I have it out on the water.
